NYC Periphery Magazine
This week we are featuring NYC Periphery Magazine, a multilingual-magazine made by students and containing work of students. It features many different languages and cultures, and focuses on student voice, including personal essays and op-eds.
The magazine especially features on students from the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, or Manhattan north of 110th street, so only students who fit this criteria and are in high school, can apply to become a contributor for its actual issues. In order to apply, you must fill out the recruitment form and application, which you can find under “Recruitment/Deadlines.”
On the website you can find many ways to get involved under "Upcoming Events",” such as submitting a blog post and art/writing contests. These specific opportunities are open to all middle and high schoolers around NYC, not just outer borough students. All blog posts have a general theme of cultural; that can be shown writing in a different language or speaking about an experience you’ve had. Similarly, the contest follows a theme of “Urban Life.”
This is a great opportunity because you can publish your own voice and artistic talent. Additionally, it is multilingual at its core and offers a really unique opportunity for students who speak multiple languages.

Even if you do not choose to get involved, make sure you check out their Summer 2020 Issue coming out August 28th!
