Teen Programs at the Studio Museum
The Studio Museum in Harlem allows teens to explore their museum and make connections with the greater art community.
They have several teen programs as highlighted on their website: Teen Leadership Council, Expanding the Walls, Art Looks and Studio Works, but the two open (virtually) right now are Teen Leadership Council and Expanding the Walls:
The Teen Leadership Council focuses on teens creating expressing ideas through the museum. Through this program, you can assist with planning and facilitating the Museum’s other free programs for teens. It runs from January to the end of June and requires a slightly rigorous application, including a letter of recommendation and a couple short answer questions that has an upcoming due date.
Expanding the Walls is a photography-based program which explores community, history and culture. The 2021 program is only accepting teens who live or attend high schools or equivalency programs in Harlem and upper Manhattan neighborhoods, as well as the South Bronx. It runs from January to August ad also requires a rigorous application, including a letter of recommendation and a few short answer questions, that has an upcoming due date.
Art Looks focuses on introducing high schoolers to contemporary artists in order to teach students about art, culture, working as an artist, etc. Studio Works is a workshop where teens work with professional artists to gain skill about several themes and techniques.
You can find more information on their website and in the short video by Ginny Huo, the Senior Coordinator of the teen programs, posted on our Instagram which you can find in the icon at the bottom of the page.
Look out for the application deadlines and apply if you’re interested!
